How to choose a fursuit maker: a 10-point checklist

A fursuit is a big purchase and you’ll live with it for years. Before you send a quote form anywhere, run through this checklist — it works for any maker, including us.
The checklist
- Does their style match your character? Toony, anime-style, realistic — look through the whole portfolio, not just the best photo. You want a maker who already builds suits that look like what you have in mind.
- Is the work really theirs? Look for consistent style across the gallery and progress (WIP) photos. If something feels off, run a reverse image search.
- What do past clients say? Ask the maker for photos of past builds and feedback from clients who received and wore their suits. A maker who is proud of their work will be happy to show it.
- Are prices published? A clear starting price for each suit type tells you quickly whether you’re in the right range. See our 2026 fursuit price guide for typical numbers.
- What does the price include? Some makers list labor only, others include some fur. Check eyes, lining, paw pads, and what counts as an extra.
- Are the terms written down? Deposit, refunds, when the balance is due, shipping, customs and warranty should all be in writing before you pay.
- How long will it take? Ask for a timeline with the quote, especially if you’re aiming for a specific convention.
- Can they ship to you — and who pays customs? Cross-border orders can add shipping, insurance, VAT or duties.
- Is payment traceable? Use a payment method that leaves a record, and keep receipts and messages.
- Are you talking to the real maker? Scammers copy photos and pose as makers in DMs. Start every conversation from the maker’s official site or verified profile. More in how to commission a fursuit safely.
Ask before you commit
A good maker answers questions before you pay anything. Useful ones to ask: can I see more photos of past builds like mine, how do you keep me updated during the build, what happens if something needs fixing after delivery, and is my slot confirmed in writing? You can ask us any of these through the quote form — payments, warranty and slots are also covered in our FAQ.

FAQ
How do I know if a fursuit maker is legit?
Start from the maker’s own website, look for consistent work and progress photos of past builds, ask for client feedback or photos of finished suits being worn, and get the price and terms in writing before you pay.
Should I pick the cheapest fursuit maker?
Price matters, but a price far below what other makers charge for similar work is a red flag. Compare what’s included (fur, eyes, lining, shipping) and the maker’s terms, not just the headline number.
What should be in a fursuit quote?
The price, what’s included, what costs extra, a timeline, the deposit and refund terms, and when the balance is due.
